About the program

The University of Canberra offers Highly competitive full-time scholarships for outstanding Higher Degree by Research (PhD-level) candidates. Less than 10% of applicants were successful in the prior round. Selection based on academic merit, research proposal quality, experience, strategic alignment, and designated priority groups. 

Eligibility criteria

For domestic student (Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen) or international student.
Must not have held an Australian-Government-funded research scholarship for more than 6 months.

Benefits

For selected individual:

Generous Stipend: AUD $36,225 per annum (tax-free, 2025 rate) to assist with living costs.
Duration: Up to 3.5 years of full-time PhD study.
Tuition Fee Sponsorship: Full coverage for eligible international candidates.
Back Payment of Stipend: Offshore international students receive back payment upon arrival in Australia.
Industry-Linked Research: Opportunities to collaborate with industry partners through the National Industry PhD Program.

How to apply

Potential PhD domestic and international candidates must apply for HDR admission via the HDR Application Portal. You will then have access to a separate application form that must be submitted for a Research Scholarship.
Current PhD candidates at the University of Canberra can also apply for a Research Scholarship. You must complete a Research Scholarship application via the HDR Application Portal.
