About the program

The American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGLS) is a highly competitive, full-tuition scholarship for international students who are committed to positive civic and social change. The scholarship is intended for students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds who wish to return to their home country to help their communities after graduation.

Eligibility criteria

• Be a non-U.S. citizen, non-U.S. permanent resident, and not hold dual citizenship with the U.S
• Be a student still enrolled in secondary school and graduating by June 2026
• Not have started any post-secondary studies at another university
• Demonstrate a commitment to leadership and community service in their home country
• Meet the English proficiency requirements
• Have a minimum of 3.8 GPA (or equivalent on a 4.0 scale)

How to apply

• You must apply as an international first-year student and complete the AU EGLS application. A complete application consists of:
• The AU EGLS application
• An American University application for admission
