About Program
The Hurford Programs is one of the best youth exchange programs, where selected participants get in touch with global networks, democracy movements, and youth movements from all around the world. The main purpose of the Hurford youth fellowship is to train potential young democratic activists and to build their leadership skills. Throughout this program, the young leader will engage in conducting research, meetings, lead presentations, online group discussions, and join all other important sessions on democracy issues. This program will take place in Washington, D.C, USA. This program is a 3-month youth exchange program in the USA and it will run from March 1 to May 31, 2024. There is no application fee. The candidates will be on the basis of their work and their interests in working with others and advancement of democracy. The candidates will be selected by the NED regional program staff, World Movement Secretariat staff, and the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this program, the candidate must:
- Not be older than 30 years old
- Demonstrate a strong interest in democratic activism and in the advancement of democracy in their respective communities, as well as worldwide
- Youth affiliated with civil society organizations are especially encouraged to apply
Requirement
The Applicant Form has four sections:
- Personal Information
- Project Proposal
- Curriculum Vitae/Résumé
- Two Letters of Recommendation.
Each applicant must complete the entire Form. Please note that incomplete application forms will not be reviewed.
Your project proposal is the most important part of your fellowship application. It should be clear, concise, and comprehensible to individuals outside your own field or concentration. Your proposal must correspond to one of the following action areas outlined in the Youth Declaration:
- Expanding Civic Space for Young People
- Countering Disinformation
- Building Citizen-Centric Accountability
- Delivering Democracy
Program Benefits
Hurford Youth Fellowship Program is a fully funded leadership program in the USA. All the expenses of the selected participants will be covered by the organization. Each fellow will receive:
- Monthly stipend for living expenses
- Basic health insurance
- Roundtrip travel to and from Washington, D.D.
- Fully equipped office including internet and email access, and a limited budget for fellowship-related long-distance phone calls.
