About the program 

University of Technology Sydney (‘UTS’) in regard to this Scholarship. The

administrative processes to support awarding this Scholarship will be managed, and may be amended, in

accordance with UTS Rules, Policy and Procedures.

Purpose

To support commencing international students who wish to undertake an undergraduate or postgraduate

coursework program at UTS in Sydney.

Duration 

The duration of the Scholarship is the standard number of credit points required for completion of the

Recipient’s enrolled undergraduate course up to a maximum of ten (10) sessions under any program or

postgraduate course up to a maximum of four (4) sessions under any program. This is on the basis of a full-

time study load, as specified in the letter of offer for admission to the course. Where the Recipient does not

follow the usual standard full-time course structure, or if the Recipient receives approval to transfer course,

the total value of the Scholarship may be exhausted prior to course completion.

Eligible Criteria 

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

• Remain an international student (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident

of Australia); and

• Meet all admission requirements for the selected UTS undergraduate (including Honours programs)

or postgraduate coursework program; and • Commence full-time and on campus (Sydney)1; and

• Must not be:

o Studying a UTS online degree or distance degree; or

o A citizen of a country in the South Asia region; or

o A recipient of other UTS scholarships or grants or the UTS Alumni Advantage Program for the

duration of this Scholarship and be a government sponsored student.

Recipient Selection Criteria 

For undergraduate admission, academic merit in the qualification used as the basis of admission for entry into

the selected UTS undergraduate program.

For postgraduate admission, academic merit in the most recently completed and recognized qualification or

the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT Exam) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE General Test)

(both tests accepted for admission into UTS Business School programs only) for entry into the selected

postgraduate coursework program.

Selection

UTS Future Learner Recruitment and Admissions will automatically consider all commencing international

students applying for an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at UTS in Sydney for this

Scholarship. There is no separate scholarship application or documentation in addition to what is required for

the course application.

Offers will be authorized by Head of Admissions Services and Scholarships, UTS Future Learner Recruitment and

Admissions.

Ongoing Recipient Eligibility Criteria 

 Academic progress:

• The Recipient must maintain a minimum Pass average (WAM 50+) in each session. Where a pass

average is not achieved, payment of the Scholarship may be suspended or terminated, unless the

Recipient can demonstrate exceptional circumstances2 for the consideration of Scholarship Selection

Committee.

 UTS Enrollment

• The Recipient must continue to be enrolled as a full-time (usually 24 credit points per session and 48

credit points per year) international student in the eligible UTS program for the duration of the

Scholarship, unless they have been approved to study a reduced study load through the standard

International Student Visa Holders Application to Reduce Study Load application process through a

UTS Student Centre.

• May apply to UTS International Scholarships to transfer the Scholarship from an undergraduate

program to another undergraduate program or from a postgraduate coursework program to another

postgraduate program if an internal course transfer is being sought. The duration of the scholarship

will not be extended due to a change in degree.

 Leave / Deferral / Course withdrawal

• All deferral or suspension requests are subject to approval from UTS.

• If the Recipient defers the UTS offer or withdraws from the UTS course after the start of their first

session and before the census date, the Scholarship will be terminated and any tuition fee paid will

be refunded according to the Statement of protocol on fees and refunds for international students

studying in Australia.

• After the first session, if the Recipient can demonstrate exceptional circumstances2

, they may apply to

UTS International Scholarships for a temporary suspension of the Scholarship during the period of

approved leave. If a period of leave is approved, the Scholarship will be suspended for the duration of

the approved leave period. However, the Scholarship maybe terminated if the Recipient takes leave

without approval from UTS International Scholarships or does not submit a request to retain

application to take an approved leave of absence for the scholarship.

Academic Integrity

• UTS takes Academic Integrity very seriously and breaches (e.g. plagiarism, cheating, etc.) are

considered Academic Misconduct. For more information on Academic Integrity at UTS can be found

on the UTS Current Students pages of the UTS website.

• Any Academic Misconduct allegations proven by the University (and upheld if appealed) will result in

the termination of this Scholarship and the University might require the Recipient to repay the total

benefit received at time of termination.

Other obligations and conditions

• The offer of the Scholarship is made subject to all information provided by the Recipient being true

and accurate.

• By accepting the offer of the Scholarship, each Recipient agrees to the Conditions of Award.

• Recipients must comply with all UTS’s rules, policies and procedures including those relating to

conduct.

• The Recipient is responsible for advising UTS International Scholarships of any changes in

circumstances that would make them ineligible for continuation of the Scholarship, including but not

limited to taking Leave of Absence or deferring study, and changing their international student's visa

status to another visa category, including but not limited to Permanent Residency Visa.

• If the Recipient obtains Permanent Residency status, the Scholarship will be terminated as outlined

below:

o For Recipients obtaining Permanent Residency before the census date in any Session, the

Scholarship will be terminated, and any tuition fee contribution already made for that session

will be reversed.

o For Recipients obtaining their Permanent Residency after census date in any Session, the

Scholarship will be terminated the following session.

• For the duration of the Scholarship the Recipient is not permitted to hold UTS Grants or other UTS

Scholarships if the total value of the scholarship per year amounts to more than the total tuition fee

payable for 48 credit points (per year) of the course, unless an equity-based scholarship is approved

by exception.

• The Recipient does not need to re-apply for the Scholarship each year.

• Any changes to the Recipient’s circumstances not addressed by the Conditions of Award will be

considered by the Head of Admissions Services and Scholarships on a case-by-case basis.

• The recipient will be invited to consent to allowing their name, photograph and/or short article to be

used for the promotion of UTS.

Termination of Recipient's Scholarship

The Scholarship may be terminated if

• The Recipient ceases to meet the eligibility criteria; or

• The Recipient breaches any conditions of the Scholarship; or

• A recipient has misconduct allegation proven and after consultation with the Director, Student

Administration and the delegate able to award the Scholarship deems that it is not appropriate for

the Recipient to continue to hold the Scholarship; or

• The scholarship is terminated, the tuition fee contribution may be reserved, and the student may be

liable to pay the full tuition fee upfront for the session in which the termination was applied.

Number of Recipients

The annual number of Recipients will vary and is determined by the following variables:

a) The availability of funding; and

b) The number of eligible candidates.

Benefit/s to Recipient

• For students commencing in 2025, UTS will pay for twenty percent (20%) of each Recipient’s UTS

tuition fees for the course enrolled in for the duration of the Scholarship as defined in clause 4.

• For students commencing in 2026, UTS will pay for fifteen percent (15%) of each Recipient’s UTS

tuition fees for the course enrolled in for the duration of the Scholarship as defined in clause 4.

• The Scholarship cannot be transferred, deferred or redeemed for cash.
